WHY WE CELEBRATE EQUALITY DAY
This year, An Evening for Equality falls right on April 17, also known as Equality Day.
On April 17, 1985, section 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms came into effect, guaranteeing substantive equality under the law. That same day, LEAF was founded—by launching no less than three legal challenges to combat discriminatory laws.
In the 39 years since, we’ve advocated for stronger equality rights in over 160 cases. It’s a special day for us, and we’d love for you to be a part of our celebrations.

We are thrilled to announce that the wonderfully talented Allana Harkin will be joining us to host this special evening.
