The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) is pleased to announce its collaboration with Madame Premier, a woman-owned and operated small business rooted in politics, community-building, feminism and design.
Today, Madame Premier debuted a t-shirt and tote bag enumerating Section 15(1), better known as the equality provision, of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to LEAF where all the funds will be put toward supporting LEAF’s litigation and law reform programs. LEAF intervenes in legal cases to advocate for the equality rights of women and girls across the country.
“We are excited about this partnership,” said Megan Stephens, LEAF’s Executive Director and General Counsel. “Working with Madame Premier has been a great opportunity for us to reach new audiences about our work and the importance of continuing to protect the equality rights of women and girls. This work is especially critical at this moment as the global COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened the status of many women and girls across the country, particularly those who experience intersecting forms of oppression.”
“Section 15(1) ensures protection based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability,” said Madame Premier owner and designer Sarah Elder-Chamanara. “Supporting the equality rights of women and girls through the justice system is fundamental and central to the mission and values of Madame Premier.”
