In September 2015, LEAF provided a submission to the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Changing Workplaces Review. The submission focused on the effect of scheduling irregularity on women’s childcare obligations, income insecurity, and participation in the labour force.
LEAF called on the Changing Workplaces Review to take into consideration the intersectional discrimination experienced by so many women in precarious work, and the disproportionate burden carried by these women as caregivers in their families.
LEAF supported reforms to employment standards that would reduce the negative impact of scheduling uncertainty on precariously employed workers. LEAF also supported the strengthened enforcement of Employment Standards Act standards across Ontario.
