In January 1990, LEAF provided the Legislative Committee of Parliament with a submission on Bill C-43, An Act Respecting Abortion.
LEAF argued that Bill C-43 was inconsistent with women’s rights under ss. 7, 15, and 28 of the Charter. Restricting access to abortion reinforced existing inequality. The bill failed to recognize the women’s capacity to make decisions about their own reproductive destinies.
