Dear LEAF Supporter
LEAF intervened in coalition with the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS) at the Supreme Court of Canada on June 14th in the case R. v. Ryan. We argued that sections 7 and 15 of the Charter must be interpreted in ways that address the realities of abused women’s lives.
CAEFS-LEAF counsel, Christine Boyle, Q.C., addressed follow up media requests leading to front page coverage in the Toronto Star. Other media coverage of the case includes articles in the National Post, Herald News and the Globe and Mail.
LEAF takes great pride in our ability to participate in landmark cases that have such profound effect on the lives of women and girls. We thank CAEFS for this opportunity to partner with them, and recognize the strength that comes from such collaborations.
We are committed to working together to build a solid financial foundation for LEAF, to maintain our ability into the future to have a presence in cases that influence the equality rights of women.
The CAEFS-LEAF factum can be found on our website: R. v. Ryan
With thanks for your support,
