Amid economic turmoil and uncertainty, LEAF, Mouvement Action-Chômage (MAC) de Montréal, and NAWL called on Prime Minister Carney to act to ensure that women who lose their job during or soon after their parental leave can access EI regular benefits.
In the short space of time between Prime Minister Carney taking office and the election a few weeks later, as workers face mass layoffs during a trade war, we urged the Prime Minister to attend to this pressing gender equity issue. It is critical that new parents have income replacement at a time when they and their families need it most.
