The Manitoba Human Rights Commission backlogs impede access to justice for Manitobans

In January 2024, LEAF Winnipeg wrote to the Manitoba Minister of Justice and the Minister of Families regarding the backlogs of complaints made to the Manitoba Human Rights Commission (MHRC). These extensive delays—often a two years wait after filing to have an investigation team assigned to a case, and even longer to reach a resolution—create an undeniable access to justice problem.

The fundamental principle of “no right without a remedy” is severely compromised when individuals experiencing discrimination are left waiting for years to have their issues resolved. Read the full letter below.
